{"id":359,"date":"2009-04-25T15:25:18","date_gmt":"2009-04-25T22:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.threshold-zero.com\/cblog\/?p=359"},"modified":"2020-09-12T13:30:45","modified_gmt":"2020-09-12T18:30:45","slug":"finally-got-windows-to-share","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threshold-zero.com\/cblog\/2009\/04\/finally-got-windows-to-share\/","title":{"rendered":"Finally got a Windows share to share"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For years, our main gaming computer (which we call the &#8220;Titan&#8221;) would just not share with any other computers.<\/p>\n<p>It couldn&#8217;t host multiplayer games.<\/p>\n<p>It couldn&#8217;t share a printer.<\/p>\n<p>It wouldn&#8217;t share files.<\/p>\n<p>You couldn&#8217;t access multimedia of any sort over it.<\/p>\n<p>I had absolutely no idea what the problem was &#8212; it was a very old Windows XP installation, probably four years or more, and had gone through Windows XP SP1, SP2, and SP3, so there&#8217;s no telling.<\/p>\n<p>It might&#8217;ve been some service I turned off years ago, or (more than likely) an old remnant\u00c2\u00a0 of Norton Antivirus (a horrible, horrible program) that refused to let go.<\/p>\n<p>I noticed that my much newer gaming PC would work just fine, and that it was running the exact same services that the Titan was running, so I was stumped.\u00c2\u00a0 You couldn&#8217;t even ping the Titan if you wanted to.<\/p>\n<p>So, on a whim, I search for &#8220;cannot ping Windows XP computer&#8221; on Google, and found this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Try this to reset TCP\/IP in XP:<\/p>\n<p>Click Start -&gt; Run -&gt; CMD<\/p>\n<p>At the prompt type:<\/p>\n<p>NETSH INT IP RESET C:IPRESET.TXT<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>via <a href=\"http:\/\/daniweb.com\/forums\/thread3089.html\">Help! Unable to ping machine on the network &#8211; Windows NT \/ 2000 \/ XP \/ 2003<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And it worked.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know what it did, but it worked.\u00c2\u00a0 I think it reset <em>completely<\/em> the way that TCP\/IP worked on Windows, because when the Titan restarted, my IP settings were completely reset, <strong>but I could ping it. <\/strong>And it shared files.\u00c2\u00a0 And it could host games (I think).<\/p>\n<p>Either way, I&#8217;m happy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For years, our main gaming computer (which we call the &#8220;Titan&#8221;) would just not share with any other computers.
