True -- I totally wish I had read this book when I was younger. Definitely enjoyable, though I'm still baffled by the completely different style of writing -- I've read lots of English translations, and weird as it is, he writes just like them!

I read this book as a kid, and it really blew me away. Imagine being 10 years old, lying in bed with the nightlite on, eyes trying to adjust to the dim light, then BAM...some plant creature named Sloosh with his human friend Deyv are on an adventure to find a portal to safety. That's about as much as I remember of this book, though I just ordered a used one from e-bay. Philip Jose Farmer is definitely a native English speaker, and very well respected in the sci-fi community. Check out his novel" The Cache". Not a bad read at all. peace, J
